If ripped jeans, moto-chic jackets and white cotton shirts are topping every must-have list between Mumbai and Paris, credit is due almost solely to Christophe Decarnin. The famously shy designer took over as Creative Director for Balmain in 2005 following Laurent Mercier, and quickly made the label the bastion of Parisian cool, with tailored seperates, beaded dresses and tough pants at soaring prices.

While Decarnin will no longer be at the design house, it is unclear as yet who he will be succeeded by.
