You know Ellen von Unwerth as the photographer whose pictures have an unmatchable sense of coy sexuality. It’s those strong images that have appeared in the pages of Vogue and in art galleries across the world. But before Von Unwerth was a master lenswoman, she was a model, and today she returned to her roots on the Manish Arora runway. “I am friends with Manish Arora and I absolutely love his creations and his creative vision. When he asked me to walk in his show, I was very honored and said yes immediately!” Von Unwerth wrote Vogue.com from Paris, where she stepped out on Arora’s catwalk this morning in a blue belted top and skirt with a shawl draped over her shoulders.

“I was a bit nervous at first,” she continued, “but the moment I entered the room, I saw so many faces of friends and people I recognized. Everybody seemed to be smiling, so I just enjoyed the moment walking through the different rooms of that amazing location, swinging my skirt to the great music—and almost went down the circling runway a second time by accident.” The guests no doubt enjoyed the photographer’s return to the runway, too—take a look at social media posts from the show, and you’ll find many touting Von Unwerth’s presence.

Von Unwerth had just as much fun backstage, too, shooting the show’s other models, including Hannelore Knuts and Chantal Thomass. “It was a great experience to be both model and photographer at the same time, and I also had fun discussing our outfits and moves with Chantal Thomass and Sophie Calle, who modeled in the show as well.” So fun we might expect another Von Unwerth turn on the catwalk soon? “If a designer who I admire and love were to ask me, I would definitely say yes!”
