Actor Megan Fox published her debut poetry collection, Pretty Boys are Poisonous, Tuesday, revealing verses about abusive relationships, love addiction, and the miscarriage of a baby girl fathered by fiancé Machine Gun Kelly (real name Colson Baker).

“I’ve never been through anything like that in my life,” Fox said of pregnancy loss in an interview on Good Morning America. “I have three kids, so it was very difficult for both of us and it sent us on a very wild journey together and separately…trying to navigate, ‘What does this mean?’ and ’Why did this happen?’”

At the Billboard Music Awards in May 2022, Kelly performed his song “Twin Flame” and said he wrote it “for my wife.” He ended the performance by saying, “and this is for our unborn child.”

In the poem about the miscarriage, Fox writes, “I want to hold your hand / hear your laugh” and “but now / I have to say / goodbye.” Another line is about imagining holding the baby "as they rip you from my insides.”

She alos writes about grappling with the loss of the pregnancy. “I will pay any price / Tell me please / what is the ransom / for her soul?”

Fox shares three children with ex-husband Brian Austin Green. 

She told Good Morning America that Kelly had encouraged her to write the poetry book, and that she found the experience cathartic.

“I just think it was something inside of me that had to come out, because it was going to make me sick,” she said. She said that she’d secretly been involved with “horrific people” in the past, and that due to the scrutiny of being a celebrity, she left some of her poems out of the book.

“I wrote a lot of things that didn’t make it in the book,” Fox said. “Because I was like, this is maybe for God’s eyes only. Some of it is too much when you’re a known person. If I had the freedom of just being a poet and people really not wanting to dig too much into my personal life, I would have included more entries like that.”

In an August Instagram post announcing the book’s imminent publication, Fox wrote, “I’ve spent my entire life keeping the secrets of men, my body aches from carrying the weight of their sins.”

“My freedom lives in these pages, and I hope that my words can inspire others to take back their happiness and their identity by using their voice to illuminate what’s been buried, but not forgotten, in the darkness,” she wrote.
