Street Rod is enjoyable, not so much because of the racing (although it's not *too* bad), but because of the strategy aspect. You're going to need a few thousand dollars to get the best car you can possibly make to take on the "King".
How you decide to go about beating him is up to you, and there's a lot of risky decisions to make. Do you upgrade an old car, or get the fastest one money can buy? Do you run your car into the ground before selling it, or swap out parts? ... And which opponents can you realistically beat in a race for pink slips? ... And then, can you drive well enough to win the race and not crash, or get arrested by the police?

Good ideas and very atmospheric.

A fun game, the irony being that the actual driving part isn't that enjoyable, however the thrill of pulling your car apart, souping up the engine and changing the transmission makes up for it! Despite the large range of cars available to purchase, the game is extremely repetitive since they all have the same dashboard and handle identically, so there's little replay value or variety in the gameplay.

Lots of fun, this one... If a little repetitive after a while. Once you get the hang of it, it can become a challenge to see how many races it takes you to beat the King. I managed to pull it off in a souped up 1930s Model T Ford.

Truly great game. Saw it first on PC, then tracked it for C-64, since I didn't own a PC back then :) My version was flawed, couldn't save, couldn't take apart the engine, still I managed to beat the King and watch a nice outtro picture. I even printed it with my C-64 printer :)

It seems kinda funny that a driving game could be cool, even if the driving segments kinda suck, but in this game the fine tuning of the car takes precedent and makes the somewhat lackluster races bareable.

My only memories of this were of my best friend coming over the house and playing this ALL DAY! I wanted to kill him!

This game is still and will always be the shit! My mates and I played this for countless days. There is game on PC called Hot Rod but sucks big time. It is unfinished in lots of ways, for eg. Buying engine mods without any HP difference and badly incorperated engine samples just to name a few. DON'T BUY THIS GAME. Street Rod still lives on. Huzzah!

I also like Street Rod, you can easily build your car even if you didn't know anything about car technics. On the other hand, I think PC version is better, it looks better and goes faster...

Absolutely loved this 60s style racing game on the Amiga. I never knew there was a C64 version, but now I know :|

I'm sure this game must has inspired the makers of Playstation's 'Gran Turismo' series. It's just got so much in common!
I had a blast playing this, even more so when, by some fluke, when I had no money left and blew both my tires in a race - I was automatically given $999, 999 - sweeet

And so we see the good times of ye halcyon days, a scene reminding one of "American Graffiti", this game was a masterpiece of cruisiness. Its laid back approach, the gorgeous classic cars, all made it feel like you had all the time in the world to dream the dream, but you didn't... Only one summer!
Gettin the king for the first time was pure magic. The dream was realised...

Whoa! I thought a game like this would of only been a Amiga/PC game. Now im thinking they just cloned this from the C64. Well done Commodore 64! :D

Kinda cool! I own it on my old C64, and it is still my favourite one. As the crackers wrote: Test Drive Suxx, Viva '63! Yeah, it has more actions like the other one, you can build a complete car for yourself... Like in the real life. And those cars form the 50'es and early 60'es! I always start with a Ford Fairlane from 1958. It is invictible!

I had a 64 for years, and I never had a better game than street rod. It totally rocks

I just want to join to the other guys: It's a very cool game with a lot of action, and motor tunning!

Almost perfect!
