Even if you didn't have one growing up, you probably still know about the Barbie doll. The unique doll with silky blond hair made its debut in 1959. Barbie was created by Ruth Handler who co founded the toy company Mattel with her husband. She said she got the idea for the toy after seeing her daughter ignore her baby dolls and instead play with paper dolls of adult women. Barbie named after Ruth's daughter. Barbara was the first mass produced toy doll in the U S that had adult features which caused some controversy. Many people saw Barbie and her wide range of careers as an inspiration to Children to become anything they want to be. The toy had *** series of different jobs including astronaut and doctor. However, some argued Barbie's tiny waist and big bust gave an unrealistic body image for young girls, but that didn't stop sales from skyrocketing since its launch. Over *** billion Barbie dolls have been sold worldwide.
