Mayor Turner Wins Big for Local Arts 

During a ceremony at the United States Conference of Mayors in Washington, DC, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner was recognized with the 2022 National Award for Local Arts Leadership. The Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs continues to lead the city in its consistent support for the local arts community, from grants to public art commissions.

Applications for FotoFest Biennial 2022 

Mark your calendars, March 18 is the deadline for artists and venues looking to participate in the 2022 FotoFest Biennial, Houston’s international photography exhibition. Participating Spaces have the freedom to show photography work on any theme of their choice. The 2022 iteration is scheduled for Sept. 24-Nov. 6 and will be curated by Amy Sadao, alongside Steven Evans and Max Fields of FotoFest. The cost for Participating Spaces applicants is $53.

Woodlands Art League Receives Major Gift 

An untitled work on paper by Spanish artist and Picasso affiliate, Joan Miró has made its way into the collection of the Woodlands Art League (WAL), through an anonymous donor. In the past year, WAL has increased its membership to 240 artists and is home to a gallery space, studio and classroom. This generous donation is sure to inspire the local community and continued support for artists in the Greater Houston Area.

Celebrate Natural Hair at Blossom & Sol Festival

Created to foster healing and connection for Black women, Blossom & Sol Festival will host its 3rd annual event on March 11-12 at the Shrine of the Black Madonna. Attendees can attend an array of workshops and panels on beauty, health, entrepreneurship and much more. The outdoor festival will also feature live music and entertainment. Tickets start at $25.
