Two Hellboys walk into a restaurant…
On Tuesday, Ron Perlman posted a photo of himself and his Hellboy film successor David Harbour having dinner together, which apparently was arranged by comic and all-star nerd Patton Oswalt.
“Not since Bill Clinton, Menachem Begin, and Anwar Sadat has there been such an epic summit yielding such a little result!” Perlman wrote. “Apparently Patton Oswald aka balvenieboy thought it was a good idea to host David Harbour and yours truly for a detente dinner. The result: I gained 3 pounds and ruined my liver.”
This marks the first time Perlman has publicly addressed that he will not be appearing in a third Hellboy film. The decision was made last month that Stranger Things actor Harbour would take up the mantel for a new iteration of the character.
“The summit dinner was a smashing success,” Oswalt wrote on Twitter, sharing the same photo as Perlman.
There is no bad blood between the two actors, clearly.
“Good luck kid! Signed, the Babe,” Perlman wrote.
Guillermo del Toro, writer and director of the first two Hellboy films, said in February that a third installment of his series just didn’t come to fruition.
“Sorry to report: Spoke w all parties. Must report that 100% the sequel will not happen. And that is to be the final thing about it,” del Toro tweeted.
Neither del Toro nor Perlman will be involved with the Hellboy reboot.
The Hollywood Reporter reported in May that Millennium was in negotiations with producers Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin for the new installment. Mike Richardson of Dark Horse Entertainment is also producing.
