Melissa Rycroft's Sneaky Trick for Not Filling Up Before Dinner

Getting into the habit of cooking is a fantastic step to becoming a healthy eater. But, um, if you pop half of your prep ingredients into your mouth as you're cooking, doesn't that nullify your efforts? (Oops.) When reality TV star Melissa Rycroft came into Glamour to tell us about the new flavors of Extra Dessert Delights sugarfree gum, we talked about this unfortunate calorie conundrum, and Rycroft had a tip with which we fell in love. She pops in a super-flavorful piece of gum, like the new Lemon Square flavor, to avoid eating hundreds of extra pre-dinner cals. It squelches her appetite by putting a different taste in her mouth than the dinner she's cooking up. I'm not a big gum-chewer, but I've found myself reaching for a stick when whipping up dinner so I'm not munching on my mise en place. Thanks for the tip, Melissa! Would you use Melissa's trick?
