Christophe Decarnin, creative director of Balmain since 2007 (and a designer there since 2005), will leave the company, according to a press release issued today.
The announcement simply said, "Today, Pierre Balmain announced the end of its collaboration with Creative Director Christophe Decarnin. Alain Hivelin, CEO of Pierre Balmain, noted that 'since 1945, the house of Pierre Balmain hasbeen one of the leading French and international luxury brands. Christophe Decarnin's work with the house's design team contributed to the success that the brand has enjoyed in recent years.'"
He didn't just bring the brand success, he absolutely blew it up in a major player over last five years and ushered in a new era of glam rock: You can thank him for super-skinny destroyed denim, those sparkly Sergeant Pepper-style jackets that have been endlessly ripped off, and the mini-mini dress, as seen on celebs like Sienna Miller, Beyonce, Blake Lively, and Rihanna.
There's no word yet on who will replace him, though the fashion world has been buzzing about it since he failed to show up and take his bow at the fall 2011 collection in Paris back in early March. Keep reading STF for more news on this story!
