(Gray News) - A longtime character on “The Simpsons” has reportedly made his last appearance on the show.

According to E! News, “The Simpsons” character Larry the Barfly, voiced by Harry Shearer, was killed off after 35 seasons.

Larry was one of several barflies to frequent Moe’s Tavern before dropping dead on his barstool during the April 21 episode titled “Cremains of the Day.”

The rest of last Sunday’s episode featured Homer, Lenny, Carl and Moe feeling bad about not knowing too much about Larry as they were supposed to be friends.

The group ended up taking a trip to Serenity Falls to honor Larry’s memory and scattered his ashes at a waterfall.

Larry the Barfly, whose full name on the show is Lawrence Dalrymple, reportedly made his first appearance on the animated series in the 1989 pilot.

Fans of the show have expressed their shock and disappointment with the writer’s decision to kill off Larry’s character.

TMZ reports Tim Long, co-executive producer of “The Simpsons,” said the creative team wanted Larry’s death to hit the audience hard like it did with the other characters as it speaks to how beloved the show continues to be.
