It was a whirlwind romance spanning the globe, splashed across headlines, and full of juicy gossip.
Martinez, 49, met Halle, also 49, on set of Dark Tide, which was filming in South Africa in 2010, the same year she and Aubry announced their split.
Things moved quickly for the glamorous couple, who confirmed their engagement in March 2012, and were married in France just a year later on July 13, 2013.
Brutal: It was on Thanksgiving in 2012 that Martinez got into his infamous brawl with Gabriel Aubry in a domestic dispute involving Halle
Bundle of joy: In October 2013, three months after tying the knot, they welcomed a son Maceo (pictured in June before giving birth)
In October that year, three months after tying the knot, they welcomed a son Maceo, adding to Halle's brood - she shares a daughter Nahla, seven, with Aubry, 39.
This will be the third failed marriage for Halle, who was married twice before she wed Martinez - she never married Aubry despite sharing a child with him.
In a joint statement, Halle and Martinez announced on Tuesday: 'It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce.
'We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus for what is best for our son. We wish each other nothing but happiness in life, and we hope that you respect our, and most importantly our children's privacy, as we go through this difficult period.'
Trouble: The marriage unraveled in the past week after they hit a 'breaking point,' TMZ reported. They had been fighting over his incident at LAX, where Olivier hit a man with a car seat
Down: The Horseman On The Roof star was sued in mid October for the attack on the airport employee, who is seen here on the floor
According to TMZ, the marriage unraveled in the past week after they hit a 'breaking point.'
They had been fighting over his January incident at LAX, where Olivier hit airport employee Ronaldo Owens with a car seat, pushing him to the ground. Halle and their son were also there. A $5 million lawsuit was filed in mid October against Halle and Olivier for the attack.
This 'exacerbated their conflicts,' it was reported.
'They have a personality difference,' it was also claimed by the site. 'They're just very, very different people. He's a very macho guy, and things just didn't jive.'
Doomed: In November 2005, Berry began dating French Canadian model Gabriel Aubry after meeting at a Versace shoot (pictured in 2009)
Parents: She gave birth to their daughter Nahla in 2008 and they split two years later in April 2010, without ever marrying (pictured in May 2009 one year before their split)
As far as the divorce, the site is claiming that Berry made the filing and it was added that the two have a prenup. According to Celebrity Net Worth she has a fortune of $80m.
'The expectation on Halle's part is for a quick, non-contentious divorce,' said a source.
Sources also have told TMZ that Halle 'is not asking for joint or primary custody, but rather what is in the best interests of the child.'
Before Olivier started a romance with Halle, he spent most of his time in his native France and the two were hoping to move there, but because of her custody agreement with Nahla, she has had to stay in the US.

Sparks: Halle and Martinez met on set of Dark Tide, which filmed in South Africa in 2010 before being released in 2012
The two made headlines in 2012 when they got into a fight with her ex Aubry during Thanksgiving. The model had dropped daughter Nahla off at Berry's Los Angeles home.
That is when Martinez and Aubrey got into a verbal which soon turned physical. Aubrey claimed the S.W.A.T. actor threatened to kill him. Both men had to go to the hospital for their injuries.
Aubrey was arrested and issued a restraining order as a result of the incident.
Halle has not had it easy with Aubry when it comes to their financial arrangement. In July she went to court to reduce her child support payments to the catwalker.
Another Hollywood hunk: Halle also briefly dated her Jungle Fever (1991) co-star Wesley Snipes
The Their Eyes Were Watching God star wanted the judge to reduce the child support she's paying Gabriel from $16,000 a month to around $3,000 a month.
In August there were rumblings that Halle and Olivier were over as she was not seen wearing her diamond and emerald engagement ring.
But it was claimed by TMZ that she had lost the bauble in January 2014 when at the Acapulco International Film Festival where she received the Silver Jaguar Award. Halle says the ring either fell off her hand or she left it on a table and someone took it.
Another sign that Halle and Olivier were on the outs came in September.
Ladies' man: Martinez previously dated Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, pictured in January 2010 just months before he met Halle on set of Dark Tide
His first American movie star: Olivier dated Mira Sorvino from 1999 to 2002 (pictured in 2001 at the Venice Film Festival)
The former Bond girl didn't seem to remember her wedding anniversary with Olivier when she talked to E! News. For her first anniversary the two went to Hawaii.
Halle has certainly not had it easy in her romantic life, now having three failed marriages and a series of high profile romances turned to dust and splashed across magazine headlines.
In 1991 the actress claimed she lost eighty percent of her hearing in her left ear due to an abusive boyfriend, while she never named the abuser she says it was someone well-known in Hollywood.
During that same year her relationship with Wesley Snipes came to an end, the two starred in 1991's Jungle Fever.
In 1993 Halle was sued by a former boyfriend, bankrupt dentist John Ronan, for $80k after he claimed she owed him for helping launch her career (the two dated from 1989 to 1991).
In January 1993 Halle married baseball player David Justice after giving her number to the athlete through a mutually-known reporter.
Berry and Justice divorced in 1997, after the actress denied being suicidal and depressed after the split.
His lady in red: From 2003 to 2007 he was with singer Kylie Minogue; here they are seen in 2003
Halle wed her second husband songwriter Eric Benet in January 2001. They finalized their divorce in January 2005, after Benet underwent treatment for sex addiction in 2002.
In November 2005, Berry began dating French Canadian model Aubry after meeting at a Versace shoot.
She gave birth to their daughter Nahla in 2008 and they split two years later in April 2010, without ever marrying.
While for Martinez this was his first marriage after dating some of the most beautiful women in the world, Halle included in that list.
The actor has dated stunning celebrities such as Mira Sorvino, Kylie Minogue and Spanish actress and model Goya Toledo, garnering the title of a womanizer in the gossip rags.
More recently he dated English model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Michelle Rodriguez, who he co-starred with in S.W.A.T.
One of his more significant relationships was early on, 1994 to 1998, with French actress Juliette Binoche.
