Colin Farrell continues to look unrecognisable in a tuxedo and long coat as he films The Batman spin-off The Penguin in New York City

Colin Farrell continued to look unrecognisable as he was pictured in a tuxedo on Wednesday while filming The Batman spin-off entitled The Penguin in New York City.

The Irish actor, 47, was sporting a very realistic balding wig as he played the series' disfigured villainous character.

Colin wore a white shirt and black bow tie under a long double breasted coat and carried a coordinated hat in hand.

The star looked serious as he filmed before stopping for a break to chat to crew members and for a hot beverage.

Colin looked menacing as he filmed completely embodying the character of Penguin, real name Oswald 'Oz' Cobblepot.

Earlier this month, Colin was spotted climbing over rubble in the street while a car was on fire in the background as he filmed the dramatic film.

The upcoming series is a spin-off of the 2022 film The Batman which starred Robert Pattison as the titular hero.

Colin's Penguin originated in this film, and is the former chief lieutenant of crime boss Carmine Falcon (John Taturro).

The Batman is an origin story so Penguin is not yet the crime kingpin he is depicted to be in the comics, likewise Batman is not yet an experienced crime fighter.

Matt Reeeves, the film's director, compared the character of Penguin to Fredo Corleone (John Cazale) from The Godfather (1972), due to 'the insignificance that he lives within, in a family that is full of very strong, very bright, very capable, very violent men'.

As well as Colin, the series stars How I Met Your Mother's Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone, the daughter of Carmine, Penguin's boss.

The Penguin was first announced back in 2021 and is set one week after the events of The Batman. It is expected to air in late 2024.

Colin has another series due to air in 2024, sci-fi series Sugar, which is said to be 'a genre-bending contemporary take on the private detective story set in Los Angeles'.

The actor's last feature film roles came in 2022 when, as well as The Batman, he appeared in the critically acclaimed, Golden Globe-winning black comedy-tragedy The Banshees of Inisherin.
