One of today’s most celebrated fashion photographers, Steven Meisel, is the star of “Role-Play,” a traveling selling exhibition, which opens today at Phillips Paris headquarters before taking off for London and New York, giving international photography enthusiasts a rare opportunity to purchase the American lensman’s work.

From a striking Vogue Italia image of models Anouck Lepere and Raquel Zimmermann splayed lifeless but well dressed on the sidewalks of Los Angeles, to a 1989 black-and-white portrait of Christy Turlington and Naomi Campbell, on display will be 25 of Meisel’s photographs spanning the entirety of his career, though with a heavy emphasis on his work from the early to mid-1990s.

Known for his rich narrative style, Meisel has shot campaigns for the likes of Prada, Valentino, and Louis Vuitton and countless editorials for Vanity Fair, Vogue, and W magazine, just to name a few. For the past 25 years, Meisel has also lent his photographic talents to every single Vogue Italia cover.

“We are very proud to bring Steven Meisel’s exciting body of work to the public,” says Vanessa Hallett, Phillips worldwide director, photographs. “As a company, we are always looking to introduce boundary-crossing contemporary artists who will appeal to varied collectors of photography and fashion, among other mediums. Meisel’s works are dynamic and inspiring, and we are looking forward to placing them in our international clients’ collections.”

Through December 9 in Paris; December 16–January 11, 2015, in London; January 23–February 14, 2015, in New York; phillips.com/auctions/exhibition/EX040614
