Chelsea fans begging Romelu Lukaku to come back after Europa League goal as six former players all score

Chelsea fans were all saying the same thing after Romelu Lukaku scored for Roma against Brighton in the Europa League.

Roma extended their lead over Brighton just before half time in the first leg of their Europa League last 16 tie through Lukaku.

An error from Lewis Dunk saw the Chelsea loanee latch on to his loose touch as he sprinted towards the Brighton goal.

And the Belgium international made no mistake one-on-one with Seagulls goalkeeper Jason Steele and some Blues fans were left yearning.

One fan said: "Bring him back."

Another wrote: "Should have stayed at Chelsea this season."

While a third put: "With Victor Osinhem unlikely should we give him a chance?"

Lukaku was not the only player with Chelsea history to get on the scoresheet in Europe on Thursday night.

Olivier Giroud, Christian Pulisic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek all scored for AC Milan as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted for Marseille.

Dujon Sterling, who came up through the academy at Cobham, also managed to score as he bagged for Rangers against Benfica.

And even Michy Batshuayi managed to score, grabbing the first for Fenerbahce in a 3-0 win over Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa Conference League.

Lukaku is on his second loan spell away from Chelsea, who bought him from Inter Milan for £97million in 2021.

After falling out with Thomas Tuchel, the striker fell down the pecking order in his debut season before being loaned back to Inter the next year.

Last summer, despite Tuchel leaving and Mauricio Pochettino arriving as the third coach since his sacking, no solution could be found and Lukaku was loaned out again - this time to Roma.

And he has been in fine form for the Serie A side, with his strike against Brighton his 18th of the season.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have struggled this season - especially for goals with Cole Palmer their top goalscorer with 12 in all competitions.

Lukaku grabbed his goal just before half-time against Brighton at the Stadio Olimpico to give Roberto De Zerbi's side a mountain to climb.

Paulo Dybala had put Roma ahead earlier in the contest after breaking the offside trap from Leandro Paredes' pass.
