I enjoyed looking at Philip-Lorca diCorcia's pictures. I chose him because I really like his photographs, and I thought it was interesting that he would find random people in the city and pay them to pose for his pictures. The hardest part of recreating one of his photographs was finding a model to do it. I couldn't find any guys who wanted to be a part of the picture, so I could only photograph girls. This made things more difficult, because most of diCorcia's photographs are of men. However, I managed to find a photograph of a woman that I liked enough to recreate. While taking this picture, I made sure that my friend Mary was in the same position as Marilyn (the woman in Philip's photograph). I also made her wear a shirt and red lipstick that matched Marilyn's. I also made sure I took this picture in front of a brick wall with a street off to the side to create a leading line effect, just like in Philip's picture. I also kept our lesson in lighting in mind - I flashed flashlights all around Mary's face in order to make her look more pale and washed-out, similar to Marilyn's face. Taking this picture and trying to make it look as similar to diCorcia's picture as possible was what I enjoyed the most about this project. The only thing I would do differently, if I could, would be to have a guy willing to be a part of the photograph so I could have him sit in the background like the man in diCorcia's picture.
