Óscar Ferreiro-Vázquez was born in the Swiss canton of Fribourg. He graduated and obtained a PhD in Translation and Interpreting with International Mention and Extraordinary Award from the University of Vigo (UVigo). He is a lecturer from the Department of Translation and Linguistics of the same institution, where he teaches undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD courses. Additionally, he is the coordinator of the Master’s Degree in Translation for International Communication (MTCI) —recognised with the Mention of Excellence by the Xunta de Galicia (Regional Government of Galicia)— and co-director of the Specialist’s Degree in Translation for the Video Game Industry (ETIV). He was also responsible for creating the ETIV-UVigo awards for video game localization. He has professional experience as a translator and interpreter and is a sworn translator by the Secretaría Xeral de Política Lingüística (General Secretary for Language Policy) of the Xunta de Galicia. He is an independent external evaluator in the quality assessment of applications for Erasmus accreditation (KA120) developed by the Spanish Service for the Internationalisation of Education (SEPIE). In the private sector, he taught approximately 1,500 training hours (corporate, maritime, business and commercial French, among other fields) to both employers and employees. Over a five-year period, he carried out various translation and interpreting tasks in a well-known company in the city of Vigo, coordinating a team of translators and interpreters to provide linguistic services to over a hundred national and international companies. He has published a large number of scientific papers and edited books and further participated in numerous conferences and scientific committees. Besides, he has been a visiting scholar at research centres of French, Portuguese, Polish, Romanian and Belgian universities, among others. He belongs to the Translation & Paratranslation (T&P) research group from the University of Vigo. His main interests concern the history of translation and interpreting during the Spanish conquest and colonisation, the translation of the globalising hip-hop movement as an artistic and cultural expression and the (para)translation of fascisms.
