Bruce Brown's The Endless Summer is one of the first and most influential surf movies of all time. The film documents American surfers Mike Hynson and Robert August as they travel the world during California’s winter (which, back in 1965 was off-season for surfing) in search of the perfect wave and ultimately, an endless summer.

I honestly knew nothing about this film going into it. I didn't even know it was a documentary. Once it began I knew I was in for a treat. The narration is amazing and probably the piece of the film that stands out the most. It kind of has the 1960's instructive video vibe going on. Which I found charming and not tiring at all. Its just a chill surf travel documentary from 1966 and I certainly enjoyed kicking back with it.

Put this on while high on LSD because of its reputation as a fun breezy beach doc. Within ten minutes the two white protagonists travel to Africa and spend a lot of time complaining that it's too expensive and making fun of the "primitive" locals for not knowing what surfing is.

I did what I have done a million times before on a boring rainy summer beach day: I watched The Endless Summer.
Beautiful in every imaginable regard; The Endless Summer is quite possibly my favorite documentary as it is the epitome of summer, surfing, and exploration.
It also helps that all the insanely beautiful imagery is backed by The Sandals’ groovy tunes.
I know i've definitely seen some of this before, years ago, but I remember being really fascinated by it. So, when I saw that it was on netflix I decided to check it out. Its 90 mins of guys surfing. Absolutely beautiful scenery. Great wildlife shots as well. I would only suggest this to anyone interested in surfing, because if you're not, you'll fall asleep.
side note: there is definitely some subtle racism when they were talking about the natives in Africa.. had to remind myself that this is from the 60s..
