Lichtenstein Girls

Regular price Regular price $65

This book was published on the occasion of Lichtenstein Girls at Gagosian, 980 Madison Avenue, New York. The exhibition presented an iconic group of paintings based on images of women taken from newspapers and romance comic books, which Roy Lichtenstein began in the summer of 1961. The anonymity of the works’ mass-produced sources allowed him to maintain an aesthetic distance from his subjects, while their deft mixing of text and image, and high and low culture, established Lichtenstein as a progenitor of American Pop art.

The catalogue includes color plates and details of the fifteen paintings and two ceramic sculptures in the exhibition, as well as related studies and source images. It also features a conversation between Dorothy Lichtenstein and Jeff Koons, an artist’s book by Richard Prince, a tribute by Richard Hamilton, and a chronology detailing major events in the artist’s life.
