Inter ultras planned to use 30,000 whistles against Roma striker Romelu Lukaku but the authorities put their foot down and banned the action.

The use of thousands of whistles to disturb a former player is nothing new in Serie A. Back in March 2022, Fiorentina fans blew 10,000 against Dusan Vlahovic during his return to the Stadio Artemio Franchi with Juventus.

Inter ultras planned to stage a similar stunt and prepared 30,000 whistles to distribute amongst supporters outside the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza ahead of the clash with Roma, but then revealed on Instagram that the whistles had been pre-emptively banned.

As reported by TMW, Roma and Inter participated in a meeting with security authorities to discuss safety measures for the match, which is where the decision was made to ban the anti-Lukaku whistles.

Roma did not specifically request this action and the move was exclusively decided by the authorities. Should the whistles be blown during the match regardless, Inter would be at risk of a punishment.
