SMOSH | Smosh is one of many accounts who began their channel in 2005. Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox (co-founders) first met in sixth grade science class, where they bonded over drawing feces and flies in a group project about landfills. Anthony first started his website http://www.smosh.com/ in 2002, uploading different Flash animations. The name came from a mishearing of the phrase "mosh pit" Ian later joined making the website a social network to share funny lip-sync videos with friends. In 2005 they joined YouTube as an easier way to share videos. Their first videos were not meant to be on the internet but after YouTube started they posted them. Many people believe their first video was a lip-sync to the Pokémon Theme Song, but it was actually a lip-sync to the Power Rangers Theme Song. They have many series in their accounts:
They have been the most subscribed account three times since they started, gaining a total of 758 days. They are thought to be the first most subscribed channel and are still one of the most successful accounts. As of 10th July 2015, Smosh have 20 801 570 subscribers, 4 526 232 164 views and 6 channels. The Power Rangers Theme was Anthony and Ian's first ever video on YouTube. At this point they had not developed their well known"shut up" intro and their outro. As YouTube did not have high definition, their videos are quite poor quality. Also as they became more popular, they had more sponsors and received more money. This allowed them to buy better quality film cameras and technology. Since 2006 they have uploaded an annual video named "Food Battle". It stars Ian and Anthony battling with their favourite food of the year. Recently in November 2014, they released their game: "Food Battle: The Game". It has been very popular with a 4.5 star rating and 1 000 000 to 5 000 000 installs. |
