1. Total was Rs. 1950/- I didnt ask for the split-up.

2. As of now, it doesnt seem to be touching anywhere. Did a round of the city yesterday and it all seems good than stock. There is enough space between mudguard and tyre.

3. Handling 'feels' bit more stable at front now. Dont know if its pshycological or real, but it 'feels' easier to keep a straightline at slow speeds in traffic.

4. Braking 'feels' better as well. Again, too early to say if its just psychological or a real performance improvement.

Odo- 32,700 kms. (I guess it should be around 5k kms more since odo was stuck for past three months).

Bike is back from service with some new parts including a face transplant-


Changed HL assembly (820/-)and fairing (620/-)(retained the windshield), Disc pads and rear brake shoe (141/- & 145/-), carburetor needle (169/-)(SC diagnosed petrol leak from carb when put on side stand to a faulty carb needle. Got to see if the problem is solved), speedometer cable (83/-), LHR indicator assembly (142/-) and regular service. Total cost- 3190/-. After 5 years, this beauty still feels fresh after a good service.

Did one chennai <-> Pondichery ride this weekend. Averaged around 80kmph most of the time, and hit 115 on the speedo once. But it did well to keep me with the other bike, an RE 350. I suspect the mileage figures were between 40-45 kmpl, judging by reserve to reserve and rough calculations.

Headlamp brightness has really increased after the headlamp assembly change few days back. Its surprisingly good now, enough to put doubts on my plans (which seems to get postponed always) to upgrade to 60W system.

Was trying the android app - fuel logic pro to keep track of mileage. tried for past 2134 kms over 34 days. figures have come out as a pleasant surprise.

Each tankfill was for 400rs.

Best- 52.76kmpl.
Average- 46.41kmpl.
Lowest- 43.10 kmpl.

Lowest figure was for a roadtrip where I had to keep pace with two amazing touring machines- bullet 350 and zmr.

Problems- Engine is drinking oil. or leaking, rather, from the head. tried Bajaj 10000 (synthetic?) oil for last service, which I feel is the main culprit. reverted back to mineral oil now. yet to check if issue persists.

Bike has gone for 37,500 kms service, with some major complaints!

1. Petrol tank has developed rust, and is leaking petrol.
2. Engine oil leakage from the head. Seems to be a gasket issue.
3. Rust in RVM screws, and it never keeps to its position.

Chennai weather has taken its toll, and the tank has rusted completly at the point where the seat meets the tank. It went unnoticed as I dont take off the seat while washing the bike. Condition is so bad, that it leaked petrol overnight on 18th morning and destroyed the paint in the below tank as well.

Service center has informed they have used some paste to cover the damaged parts. Will be replacing the tank soon. (Currently they dont seem to have it in stock!).



Some stats from past 3700+ kms/ 75 days -

1. Average FE - 46.82 kmpl.
2. Average fuel costs per km - INR 1.51.
3. Average accumulated costs per km- Rs. 2.14.
3. Average kms per day - 49.43 kms.

Chennai weather has taken its toll

My pulsar has the same area rusted .Seems like the area accumulates moisture.
I didn't notice until i removed the seat for a battery change.
Cleaned the area put some local paint and sealed the area with some stuff, dont know what the mechanic did it and is running around with it for a 3-4 months .
Mean while the front forks has also developed rust and, The upper area above the rubber shock seals.
My bike has seen almost every rain and sun.
I need to replace the following parts.
1) pertol tank - Rusted
2) Silincer -Welded with new piece- Again rusted.
3) The fork clamps (??).
4) rear Alloys . Brakes not gripping .

Would be a wrong time to swap if you are looking for an upgrade. I believe the market will change a lot as Bajaj brings out KTM + new pulsar combination, and others respond to it.

I was looking at a proper 250cc bike, but sadly - the spares+ quality issues and personal constraints made me postpone the decision. Dont want to buy another pulsar/ sub 20 bhp bike just for the sake of it.

I'm waiting for a long time. Dont know how long will my pulsar hold .There is no rear brake.
Running around with front brakes that too is fast loosing its bite.
But my bike still gives around 50kpl ,I ride around 60 -80 max,I dont have the guts to take it beyond that.

Its been 5000 kms (in 133 days) since I started tracking the fuel and service costs.

Average fuel consumtion - 46.65 kmpl (Best - 52.76, worst -41.81).
Fuel costs per km - Rs 1.52.
Average kms per month - 1145 kms.
Average fuel costs per month - Rs. 1738.29

Average other costs per month - Rs 1069.62 (Includes one insurance premium)

Inside of the tube had black powder coating, which they cleaned off with the blunt edge of an axo blade, and further with sandpaper. Hopefully, there wont be any air leakage issues.

The tubeless tyre conversion was a mistake!

I went ahead with the conversion thinking that the alloys will hold good, but seems alloys do develop rust (or whatever) and air leakage is occuring. The steel rims on my WagonR has been running fine with tubeless tyres for long time without any issues! Wonder why alloys are having this problem!

For the third time since May 2011 - had to remove the tyres and get it cleaned because of air leakage! I am also carrying a spare tube with the toolkit these days in-case i get stranded somewhere without a solution to this issue!

Tank was fixed by some jugaad by the SC. Might go in for a replacement soon. SC says tank will cost 4.5k, but the entire painted parts of the bike can be replaced within 6.5k! Hmmm... Thats something to think about!
