In a first of its kind case in the city, a tattoo artist and his manager were arrested for keeping a rhesus macaque monkey, a protected species, and posting videos on social media.

CHANDIGARH: In a first of its kind case in the city, a tattoo artist and his manager were arrested for keeping a rhesus macaque monkey, a protected species, and posting videos on social media.
UT chief conservator of forests (CCF) Debendra Dalai said Kamaljit Singh, who runs a shop with the name of Kamz Inkzone in Sector 35 C, and his manager Deepak Vohra, were arrested under Section 50 of Wildlife Protection Act for offence committed under Sections 9 and 39 of the Act.
The two were handed over to police, who will produce them before the court on Thursday, he added.
Dalai said they had received a complaint from PETA a tattoo artist was regularly posting videos with the monkey on his Instagram account. The artist has claimed he had released the monkey recently but could not show any proo. The monkey could not be recovered. The monkey in the videos posted by the tattoo artist on instagram is of Indian species Macaque, which is a protected species under the Act, said Dalai.
