Los Roques is an archipelago of Venezuela, located in the Caribbean Sea, 168 km north of La Guaira, the port of Caracas. Due to its beauty and ecological importance, it was declared a national park in 1972.

To get to Los Roques, if you do not have your own yacht (or a friend with yacht), you can take commercial flights from Caracas, Porlamar (Margarita) and Maracaibo. The arrival by air is an unforgettable spectacle, thanks to the variety of blues that can be observed from the air.

There you will reach the island of Gran Roque. If you are going for a single day you can take a catamaran or a peñero, to go to other islands like Francisquí or Crasquí.

The archipelago contains about 50 different islands. The most important, El Gran Roque, is the only one populated and is where the airport is. The other most important islands are Francisqui, Nordisqui, Madrisqui and Crasqui. However, do not settle for these keys only.

The Keys

You can get to know the little Rasquí cay: the closest thing to a private island. You can also go to Cayo de Agua, a desert cay with crystalline waters.

Los Roques: National Park

Because Roques is a national park, certain restrictions have been imposed on buildings. There are no large luxury hotels, but a variety of inns, from the most simple and unpretentious to the most luxurious, who take pride in their cuisine.

How to get to Los Roques?

Most of the tourists arrive at Los Roques by plane. The Gran Roque airstrip is a simple and not very long track, so large aircraft do not fly and flight times are diurnal, with a duration of approximately 25 minutes. You can also go on a yacht, most of the times private and can be rented for the trip that lasts between 4 and 6 hours, depending on the sea conditions that is quite moved on the way from La Guaira (near Caracas) And the Gran Roque.

Visiting Los Roques

Almost all the inns are located in El Gran Roque, from where boats leave to the different islands, especially Francisquí, Madrisquí and Crasquí. It is also possible to stay on a sailboat or a yacht, which are traveling from one island to another.
