Move movie files off your iPad with Toshiba device
LAS VEGAS — Shooting video and taking pictures with your tablet is speedy. Moving those large files off them usually isn't.
Toshiba may have come up with a solution, with a new gizmo called the "Transfer Jet." This is made up of two dongles that plug into the device of your choice, and allow for speeds of what Toshiba claims is 10 times faster than wi-fi and 100 times faster than Bluetooth.
Anyone with a tablet computer such as an iPad knows how hard it is to move a large group of photos, video clips or purchased movie off the device, since there's no USB slot. The Transfer Jet works with Apple and Android devices. On the iPad, for instance, you insert one dongle into the lightning port; then, on your laptop or desktop, you insert the second dongle into the the USB port. They then communicate with each other.
We did a little test with the Toshiba for large video files, and they indeed zip along. But the real test will happen when I get to use the Transfer Jet at home.
The product will ship in the spring, for $49.99.
Additionally, new Toshiba iWindows Encore 2 tablets promise to make it easier for folks who like to write and draw. The 8 inch ($349) and 10 inch ($399) devices come with a supplied TruPen, developed by Wacom, which makes digital pens for animators and photographers. It advertises "paper-like precision."
In a demo, we saw Toshiba execs use the pen for both a highly detailed drawing and fine penmanship. Watch the accompanying video to check it out.
Impressive stuff.
