Four times the 'Toy Story' movies made us cry

Today marks the 20th anniversary of Disney/Pixar's legendary Toy Story, and that means more than two decades of toy bro code — with Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), of course — a slew of neat characters and animated fun for all. Oh, and TEARS FOR DAYS. All three of the flicks so far have some emotional scenes that'd make even Mr. Potato Head a little verklempt.

Let's revisit. And don't worry if you need a moment.

Toy Story (1995) — Buzz figures out he's a plastic action figure

I mean, it's kind of obvious to the audience. And Woody keeps trying to tell him he can't actually fly. But Buzz doesn't quite realize his situation until he sees a commercial for himself. Also not helping the situation: Randy Newman crooning mightily in the background.

Toy Story 2 (1999) — Jessie sings her backstory

Maybe Sarah McLachlan has just sung on way too many ASPCA commercials but crying when one hears her voice is pretty much like Pavlov's dog at this point. Still, there's some serious emotion involved when Jessie, the yodeling cowgirl who seems to be pretty chipper most of the time, reveals to Woody how her owner Emily grew up, traded her dolls and lunchboxes for a bunch of makeup supplies, and ultimately ditched Jessie in a donation box.

Toy Story 3 (2010) — Everybody's gonna be incinerated

True, no one actually ended up in the furnace — I mean, how could they do Toy Story 4 (coming to theaters June 15, 2018!) if everybody got melted? That said, it's still OK to get a little worked up at just the thought of all the friends holding hands and facing a fiery fate together.

Toy Story 3 — Andy gives away his buddies

It was all kind of leading to this. Andy finally reaches college age and when heading off, he hands off Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the toy gang to the little girl Bonnie to enjoy. That's the good news. Bad news: THIS WILL WRECK YOU.
