UEFA Champions League hopefuls Olympique de Marseille have made Argentinian defender Gabriel Heinze their tenth signing this summer, recruiting the 31-year-old on a three-year deal from Real Madrid CF for €1.5m.
PSG experience
Heinze joined Real Madrid from Manchester United FC in 2007, having previously turned out for Marseille's arch-rivals Paris Saint-Germain FC between 2001 and 2004, winning the French Cup in 2004. "I experienced some fantastic years of football at Real," he said. "But a player's life is made up of changes of club and I'm happy to be here and will give my best."
'Technical quality'
"He's a typical Argentinian defender," added OM coach Didier Deschamps. "He likes tough encounters and has plenty of technical quality. He has experience and no fear." The Argentinian international can operate either at left-back or in central defence and will be looking to help his new club reach the UEFA Champions League knockout phase when they commence their group-stage campaign in September.
