Twenty-seven seasons in, looks like Marge and Homer Simpson are going to take a little break — from each other.
According to "The Simpsons" executive producer Al Jean, the keystone couple of the series are going to hit a rocky patch this upcoming season. As he told Variety, it turns out Homer has narcolepsy, which strains their marriage. After they legally separate, "Homer falls in love with his pharmacist," he said, who'll be voiced by "Girls" star and creator Lena Dunham.
"We'll have cameos from the other women from 'Girls,'" he added, referring to Zosia Mamet, Allison Williams and Jemima Kirke.
That's not the only way the show is mixing things up: for this year's annual "Treehouse of Horror" episode (which ties into Halloween and is not part of the show's canon), Sideshow Bob will finally get a chance to do away with nemesis Bart Simpson.

"I'm one of the people that always wanted the Coyote to eat the Roadrunner, so you can see where this is going," Jean said during a panel discussion at Austin's ATX Festival. "I hated frustration comedy, so we'll scratch that itch on the Halloween special."
But back to Homer and Marge: Yes, they'll part ways, but it's not like this would be the first time they've split. In Season 8, Homer actually secretly filed for divorce, deciding that Marge could find someone better than he was.
They remarried later in that episode but in Season 20 they learned that Rev. Lovejoy didn't have a valid license to perform weddings back then! (They got remarried legally.) That meant there were 12 seasons in which they weren't actually married, which puts this legal (likely temporary) separation into context.

So don't worry, "Simpsons" maniacs. Undoubtedly, your favorite couple will soon be back at 742 Evergreen Terrace, as they've been for (most of) the past 574 episodes.
"The Simpsons" returns to Fox on Sept. 27 for its 27th season.
