They don’t make ’em like Etienne Louis Boullée envisioned ’em. Although monumental buildings exist, the cost of creating buildings and monuments as large as Boullée’s is both prohibitive and obscene. Still, his mammoth ego structures are fascinating to view in paper form, and even interesting to contemplate. This is architecture that smothers the masses.
