Derek Zoolander and Hansel do think for themselves.
The male models portrayed by Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson stopped by Weekend Update to talk politics and dissect fashion crimes committed by the presidential candidate frontrunners, including Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
“Well, you know, Hillary is from the 90s, which is really hot right now,” said Wilson, who is reprising his role as Hansel in next week’s sequel “Zoolander 2.”
The duo will return as the clueless fashionistas once tasked with assasinating the Malaysian prime minister. Stiller, who created the characters for the VH1 Fashion Awards in 1996, is directing the Feb. 16 sequel.
In Saturday’s sketch, he likened Clinton’s wardrobe to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un as his model alter-ego.
The models turned their eyes from Clinton to her opponent, Bernie Sanders, who also made a cameo appearance on Saturday’s show hosted by his doppleganger Larry David.
Stiller’s Zoolander believes the senator from Vermont frequents the sales rack for his baggy suits.
“Bernie is a champion of the 99% — apparently the 99% off at JC Penny’s,” he said.
Wilson’s Hansel threw a one-liner, too.
“Chernobyl called and they want their disaster back,” Wilson quipped.
Stiller and Wilson’s characters did not spare the Republicans from their harsh scrutiny at the news desk. The duo confused Texas Sen. Ted Cruz for an out-of-shape Tom Cruise and claimed Trump as one of their own.
They celebrate Trump for his “classic male model looks” depicted in photos of his spray-tanned face, blustery hair and second place loss at the Iowa caucus.
“We love him,” Stiller’s Zoolander said. “Donny is just like us.”
This was Stiller’s second appearance as Zoolander on SNL, while Wilson, 47, has never appeared on the New York City sketch comedy show.
Stiller, 50, spiked his hair and donned his Zoolander person for a 2011 episode, two decades after Stiller ended his one-month-stint as a SNL cast member. He appeared in four episodes in 1989.
