In the early 2000s, Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt were one of the most glamorous and pre-eminent couples walking red carpets at major awards shows, including the Golden Globes.
But that all ended when the beautiful blonde duo underwent a high-profile split in 2005 that included reports that Pitt left the beloved “Friends” star after becoming smitten with his alluring “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” co-star Angelina Jolie. The divorce understandably left some hard feelings between Aniston and Pitt.
Fast forward to 2020. Since Pitt’s marriage to Jolie famously imploded, and Aniston ended her three-year marriage to Justin Theroux in 2018, the exes have reportedly worked their way back to becoming at least friendly again. Pitt, 56, attended both Aniston’s 50th birthday party last February and turned up at her holiday bash before Christmas, where he reportedly was among the last to leave, the Daily Mail reported.
Now, the famous exes will be together again at a major awards show: Sunday night’s Golden Globes. Both are nominees, as well as leading contenders to take home statues. Aniston also is scheduled to be a presenter, E! News reported.
Cue Aniston and Pitt fans getting nostalgic about when they were Hollywood’s golden couple and walked the red carpet together at various awards shows. The former pair’s last outing to the Golden Globes together was in 2002 when they wore matching stylish black outfits. Aniston was nominated for best actress in a TV musical or comedy for her role in “Friends.”
Don’t look for Aniston and Pitt to walk the red carpet together Sunday night, but the two will be seated “feet apart” at separate but nearby tables in the ballroom at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, where the show is held, the Daily Mail reported.
Aniston and Pitt apparently made no objections to being seated in such close proximity and signed off on the table arrangements, the Daily Mail added. So, it’s conceivable that the cameras might catch them leaving their tables at a commercial break to greet each other and exchange a few friendly words — or perhaps more.
The fact that Aniston and Pitt didn’t object to being seated near each other is yet another sign that they have rekindled their friendship. Some fans no doubt fantasize about them reuniting romantically. But these golden couple fantasies probably won’t materialize Sunday night.
But the evening might be rewarding in other ways for both the stars and their fans. The stars are each enjoying a resurgence of sorts in their careers.
Gold Derby predicts that Aniston could win best actress in a TV drama series, denying the award that might otherwise go to Academy Award-winner Olivia Colman, who stars as Queen Elizabeth in Netflix’s “The Crown.”
In “The Morning Show,” Aniston plays an ambitious, but morally compromised, network TV anchor. If Aniston wins Sunday, it would be her second Golden Globe honor. While she didn’t win for best actress for “Friends” in 2002, she walked away with the award in 2003.
Pitt is nominated for a Golden Globe best supporting actor for his role in the Quentin Tarantino’s film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” He is heavily favored to win over other heavy-hitters like Al Pacino, Tom Hanks, Anthony Hopkins and Joe Pesci, Variety reported. If Pitt wins Sunday, it would be his second Golden Globe. He previously won for best supporting actor in 1996 for “Twelve Monkeys.”
