Juan Francisco Casas is a Spanish artist, author of a series of ballpoint illustration, large canvases on which he reproduces photographs and portraits using only ballpoint pens.

With a photorealist technique, Casas recreates amateur photographs of transgressive, cheeky and almost pulp moments, which seem to come from a Terry Richardson set. Explicit eroticism seasoned with a dose of self-irony that mitigates its features.

“I guess it started off as a joke, to try and make something so realistic that people would think is a photo. For me it’s not that different from painting. I was trying to show that it doesn’t matter what material you use, it’s what you do with it.“
