Already a flagship out of the box, 2004 Lexus LS 430 takes it up several notches with heated/cooled seating, dynamic radar cruise control.

At the turn of the millennium, Lexus introduced the LS 430, the third version of its then-decade-old flagship sedan. Influences from famous luxury hotels and first-class air travel found their way inside the LS. A big V8 moved the LS around the high streets, passing by tired Teutonic titans along the way. The new Lexus held its ground on the luxury battlefield, to say the least.

Yet, the LS 430 could be a bigger flagship than it already was. All one had to do was add the Ultra Luxury package. One fine example turned up on Cars & Bids recently, still going strong nearly two decades later. And, wow, is this thing MINT with only 37,400 original miles!

The Ultra Luxury package added several features to the LS 430, including dynamic radar cruise control, a first for a U.S. market Lexus. It also included pre-collision detection, another first for a U.S. Lexus, plus parking assist. All housed in a longer, taller body with looser styling compared to the second-gen LS.

Moving all of that around is the 4.3-liter 3UZ-FE V8, which was introduced with the LS 430. The big V8 not only delivered 290 horses and 320 lb-ft of torque, but also enough clean emissions to give the LS 430 Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle-status. The power passed through a six-speed automatic to the air-riding rear, bringing elegant strength to the highway.

The elegance continues inside. Aside from the wood trim and black leather, all of the seating is heated and cooled. The rear passengers also get to keep cool with their own AC, whose air purifier guarantees only clean, cool breezes hit their faces. The driver gets a rear backup camera, a rarity on most cars from the period. Rain-sensing wipers, adaptive HID headlights, and one of the quietest cabins around help complete the package.

Back in its day, this LS 430 with the Ultra Luxury package went home for $73,579. In today’s money, that’s $109,140.64, around the same price as a 2022 LS 500 AWD with the Kiriko Glass/black leather interior package, and nothing else. The more things change, the more they stay the same, even with Lexus’ flagship sedan.
