Ramon Vergara Grez

Ramon Vergara Grez (1923 - 2012) was active/lived in Chile.  Ramon Vergara Grez is known for Painting.

Founder of the "Group Rectangle" ( "Grupo rectangle") (1955) and the "Movement of form and space" (1962), Vergara Grez is considered the father of abstraction in Chile.  Member of the Academy of Fine Arts of the Institute of Chile (1972), it is the defender Neoplasticism strictly rational art, without any intervention from the subjective, sentimental or figurative.  It breaks completely with the naturalistic conception of art, and away from the traditional Chilean painting to approach the art of intellectual reflection and the study of pure forms.

He created an alphabet of universal communication, "a contemporary language to express the Chilean reality in its atmosphere and its essential characteristics," as he expresses himself.  Vergara Grez has exhibited many times, individually and collectively, in Chile and abroad.  One of his last exhibitions at the Museum of Fine Arts in Santiago in 1997 took retrospective look and had 55 years of work.
