2024 Season

The Plastic Bag Store

May 9 - September 2 | MASS MoCA's Building 1

MASS MoCA, in association with Williamstown Theatre Festival, presents:
The Plastic Bag Store
Created, written, designed, and directed by Robin Frohardt
Music by Freddi Price
Produced by Pomegranate Arts

A Tragicomic Ode to the Foreverness of Plastic.

The Plastic Bag Store is a public art installation and immersive film experience by Brooklyn-based artist Robin Frohardt that uses humor, craft, and a critical lens to question our culture of consumption and convenience — specifically, the enduring effects of single-use plastics. The shelves are stocked with thousands of original, hand-sculpted items — produce and meat, dry goods and toiletries, cakes and sushi rolls — all made from discarded, single-use plastics in an endless cacophony of packaging.

The Plastic Bag Store has an estimated run time of 60 minutes.

TICKETS ARE $25 ADULTS / $20 YOUTH (6-16 YEARS) AND MUST BE PURCHASED ON THE MASS MOCA WEBSITE; CHECK THEIR WEBSITE FOR SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE DATES AND TIMES; ADVANCE RESERVATIONS REQUIRED

MASS MoCA’s presentation of The Plastic Bag Store is supported by the Director’s Catalyst Fund, with generous contributions from Greg and Anne Avis, Kelly and Bill Kaiser, Steve and Lisa Jenks, and an anonymous donor. Additional support is provided by the W.L.S. Spencer Foundation, The Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation and Scott and Ellen Hand.

Discounts are available for MASS MoCA Members and Williamstown Theatre Festival donors. Donors, click here to contact us for your code.

DRAGON MAMA

July 2 - July 14 | CenterStage

Sara Porkalob's
Dragon Mama
Part II of The Dragon Cycle
Directed by Andrew Russell

“Incandescent Force and Phenomenon” (The Boston Globe) Sara Porkalob transforms the Festival’s CenterStage into a vast canvas of emotion, humor, and resilience. With her powerful voice and an evocative collection of ‘90s R&B hits, Porkalob vividly brings to life the complex tapestry of her mother Maria’s early years and queer identity, affirming the power of family, the importance of self-discovery, and the indomitable spirit of those who dare to dream beyond their circumstances.

DEATH, LET ME DO MY SHOW

July 5 - July 14 | MainStage

Rachel Bloom's
Death, Let Me Do My Show
Directed by Seth Barrish

From the co-creator and star of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend comes a one-woman musical comedy that is definitely NOT about the ever-present specter of death. Rachel Bloom’s new show is filled with raunchy and escapist material that will in NO way explore the pandemic and all the tumultuous events that ensued in her personal life. NOTHING will stop Rachel from partying like it’s 2019!

Pamela Palmer lives a seemingly perfect life with her husband at Wishwood but has a bizarre suspicion something’s wrong, only for them both to become entangled with the detective she hires to investigate. Directed by Ives’ longtime collaborator, Walter Bobbie (Chicago, Venus in Fur), Pamela Palmer goes undercover as a plainclothes philosophical look at the human condition.
