There are a number of things many of us fear as we age. Some might include sagging skin, weight gain & achy joints but the dreaded one by far, at least for me, is the ability to remember things.
This past weekend, I hit an all time record in the “DOH” category!
A few weeks ago, I purchased tickets to see Celine Dion in Montreal this summer. I know, you either love her or you don’t, but regardless of your opinion of her, her voice is remarkable.
She is someone on my bucket list so to speak, so I figured, what the hell, bite the bullet & go while she is still singing publicly.
So what’s the big deal you ask?
This past weekend, as I stood there sharing my exciting news with my daughter, babbling on about how I have always wanted to see her, I was met with a look of confusion.
The look was something like this one, only the person in the picture is about 30 years younger!
What the hell are you talking about?
It was at this point my daughter reminded me that I have, in fact, already seen her.
WHAT? {Insert same look of bewilderment}
She then went on to remind me of the time I saw Celine in Toronto, with my daughter, my niece, my sister-in-law, a good friend & her 2 daughters.
Oh shit! Right.
Guess I better print that bucket list off & so that I can systematically start ticking things off.
In the meantime, hopefully Celine will be more memorable this time around! At least I didn’t fly to Vegas!

Life After 50 
I can’t always remember the concerts I saw in my teens and early twenties either. Great idea to make a bucket list!
Funny Susie, I seem to be able to remember the concerts I saw in my teens & early 20’s better than I can the ones I have attended later in life! This particular one would have most likely been in my 40’s….DOH!
hahaha! Obviously she wasn’t memorable the first time! On the other hand, you’ve never seen her in her ‘hometown’ of Montreal and THAT is likely going to be very memorable 🙂

Ah yes, the memory! Now you know the real reason behind my blog… a journal of our travels and the people we’ve met. Those lapses of memories can be a tad embarrassing, at least they have been for me 😉

My biggest fear as I age is that I’m going to run out of time to complete that bucket list. I’m not sure how I’d feel if I found out I’d doubled up on one.

OH, thank goodness! Its not just me! My sisters and I often remark that we must share a brain because between the three of us we (almost) remember most of our childhoods!

Good post. I’ve had a similar experience, but I can remember convos we had in your mom’s front room, listening to LPs in the 70s. Can’t remember last week though (or much from the 80s) 🙂

It’s not enough just to make memories; you’ve got to find some room in your closet for them too.
