Martin Parr

I really enjoy Martin Parr’s work, I’ve chosen to include him in my artist research because I veritably love his work, both when it comes to his chosen themes and his stylistic approach. Martin Parr is a chronicler of our age. In the face of the constantly growing flood of images released by the media, his photographs offer us the opportunity to see the world from his unique perspective. At first glance, his photographs seem extravagant or even grotesque. The motifs he chooses are strange, the colours are garish and the perspectives are unusual. His work is visually beautiful, he manages to get a strong message across. I believe you see the world in a different aspect from when viewing his images.

Ive devoted a selection of his work underneath, from his series, ‘The Cost of Living, The Last Resort’. The shots I’ve chosen depicts his work in that one shot. I find the series interesting, as I’m always so absorbed and fascinated by his work. I think this is because he engages a lot of people in his work which makes the audience interact more and feel more involved. I feel like his work relates to my series even though it is completely different and isn’t about a definite family. I find the way he captures that realistic natural field, and doesn’t have specific idea on what he wants to archives but just takes any shot but obviously effortlessly. Overall Parr’s work proves the truth and natural feel to what life really is.
