With so many vampire themed anime in the studios, it becomes such a task to find one that you will love. But every once in a while, you will come across an anime, such a gem, that it is hard not to like it. In my opinion, Hellsing Ultimate is one of them.  In a couple of words to easily sum it up, absolutely brilliant!

The story follows Alucard (Dracula backwards, little bit of trivia) who is a vampiric slave to his master, Integra. The Hellsing Organization is a world power that is designed to rid the earth of unwanted vampires and all things similar. I know what you're thinking..."So if they want to get rid of vampires, why are they using a vampire to help them?" Yeah you're right, but Alucard has an attachment to Integra and must follow her commands.

When it comes to main characters heroes.... Alucard would be either way toward the top of the list or at the very bottom. Why?? I hear you ask, well that's because he is the most evil 'hero' I have seen.  He tortures his enemies and rarely kills them  without tearing them to shreds and stripping them of all dignity first. He is a hero without morals so to speak. And that is what makes him awesome! Don't expect your do-good, compassionate protagonist in Hellsing Ultimate.

Alucard's master, Integra, is hard to read and usually has a nasty habit of always smoking.  She is the head of The Hellsing Organization, can control Alucard and smokes A LOT, that pretty much sums her up.  But Alucard's new young assistant, newly turned vampire for that matter, is probably the most likeable character you'll find in the series... not too bad to look at either.  And now we have our enemy, a fat Neo-Nazi Major who is intent on destroying London and The Hellsing Organization too.  So without too much complexity, there's your basic plot. Not too hard to wrap your head around.

Conclusion

I must also mention the art and animation, which is absolutely top tier. It gets a 10/10 all the way, you won't find better. It is dark, dreary and gives off an evil vibe. Suits the story and characters perfectly.  Combined with the action and fighting scenes, very few would rival it. Crazy preists, neo-nazi super zombies, a hero that enjoys killing most of all and brutally violent / bloodthirsty fighting scenes are what you can expect. The only qualm I have is at some points you can be swamped with the Neo-Nazi Major talking your head off. But it is a small price to pay for what you're getting.

Pro's

- Gory, gruesome, violent and bloodthirsty

- Characters and art/ animation quality

- Story is simple

Con's

- Only some over-the-top dialogue from the Major
