As reported by AS, former Arsenal player Freddie Ljungberg heavily criticised Rodri in the aftermath of the Manchester derby that Manchester City won 3-0 on Sunday.
The comments came as a result of the controversial penalty awarded to City around the thirty-minute mark as the Spanish international was brought down in the box by Rasmus Højlund, which Erling Haaland then routinely dispatched.
However, Ljungberg was far from impressed with the ease with which the ex-Atlético Madrid player appeared to go down. “I don’t like that sort of thing. Maybe he does touch him with his arm, but Rodri weighs 90 kilograms. He threw himself to the ground.”
Not content with criticising just the player, Ljungberg also condemned La Liga. “This is how it works in Spanish football, I don’t want Spanish football in the Premier League.”
Rodri has been a key part of the Manchester City squad since his arrival in 2019, scoring the winning goal in their Champions League final against Inter to secure the treble.
