Former Gator Kevin Carter Named 2010 SEC Football Legend

Former Gator defensive end Kevin Carter will represent the University of Florida as a member of the 2010 Southeastern Conference Football Legends Class, the SEC announced today.

Former Gator defensive end Kevin Carter will represent the University of Florida as a member of the 2010 Southeastern Conference Football Legends Class, the SEC announced today.

Each Southeastern Conference legend will be honored at the SEC Legends Dinner in Atlanta Ga., which will be hosted by AT&T on Friday, December 3. Carter will also attend the “Week of Champions” festivities, which culminates with the SEC championship game at the Georgia Dome on Saturday, December 4.

Carter finished his college career with 42.5 career tackles for loss and 21.8 quarterback sacks, which ranked seventh and fifth in school history, respectively. He was first-team All-SEC his junior and senior years, and he was a four-year letter winner who started 38 of his last 39 games.

He was named on of five finalists for the 1994 Defensive Player of the Year Award by Football News. He was also a finalist for the 1994 Lombardi Award, which is awarded to the top lineman in the nation. In 2000, Carter was voted to the Florida Gator All-Century Team and in 2006, he was voted to the University of Florida Gator 100th Anniversary Team. Carter was inducted into the University of Florida Sports hall of Fame in 2004.

Carter became a first-round pick in the 1995 NFL draft, drafted sixth overall to the St. Louis Rams. He played in 224 consecutive games, never missing a game of his 14-year NFL career. During his time in the NFL he has recorded 104.5 career sacks. Throughout his NFL career Carter has played for the St. Louis Rams, Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
