Summary[edit]

Description
Deutsch: Eintausend Mark Reichsbanknote 15.

English: Eintausend Mark Reichsbanknote 15. Dezember 1922, 1000 marks bill of the Weimar Republic 1922, overprinted/overstamped with Eine Milliarde Mark, 1 billion marks, in the inflation period in 1923. Portrait of mintmaster Jörg Herz (1492 – 1554).

The Papiermark was the German currency from 4 August 1914 when the link between the Goldmark and gold was abandoned, due to the outbreak of World War I. In particular, the Papiermarks was the currency issued during the hyperinflation in Weimar Germany of 1922 and 1923. The Rentenmark was a currency issued on 15 November 1923 to stop the hyperinflation, after the previously used "paper" Mark had become almost worthless. It was replaced in 1924 by the Reichsmark.
