This 1989 Peugeot 505 Turbo 5-speed comes from the brand’s final year in the US-market. This 112k mile example is a mechanically stock 180 horsepower car, though it has been partially repainted and is fitted with Euro-market headlights. The car has no accident history and benefits from a recent valve job, a rebuilt brake caliper, and general sorting to make the car a good driver. No mechanical issues are noted, and rust appears limited to a quarter sized spot on the left front fender. The car is sold with a clean Carfax and a clean Virginia title in the seller’s name.

Since acquiring the car, the seller has refurbished the side trim, replaced one of the wheel center caps, fitted a new sidemarker, and installed European headlights. The red paintwork shows well in photos, and the seller notes that the car has been at least partially repainted due to damage from a tree branch. This 505 features the optional rear spoiler and the seller has recently fitted new tires.

The European headlights are a welcome improvement over the US-market items, which used rectangular sealed beam lights in a bespoke housing. Some wear is present in the paintwork on the front valence and bumpers, but the rest of the finish has held up well.

The interior was updated for the 1986 model year, and differs substantially from Paul Bracq’s original design. The dash appears free of cracking, and the vents are all intact. The original sound system has new speakers and a new antenna drive motor. The carpets are intact, though they show some fading.

The seats have been cleaned and conditioned, but show considerable creasing and cracking. The seller notes that all four power windows and the sunroof work correctly, while the driver’s mirror motor has been replaced. The A/C does not blow cold and the cruise control has been disconnected to preserve the speedometer cable.

The turbocharged 2.2L inline four made 180 horsepower and 210 ft. lbs. of torque when new. This engine retains its original block, though the cylinder head was replaced in 1995. It is said to run well with some smoke present at startup. The car is believed to have sat from 2010-2016, but once fitted with a new battery and fluids the seller was able to drive it from Knoxville, Tennessee to Arlington, Virginia. Other work performed by the seller includes:

  • Valve adjustment
  • New spark plugs and OEM wires
  • Powdercoated valve cover, intercooler bracket, heat shield, and front lift bracket
  • Stripped and repainted intercooler
  • Rebuilt left front brake caliper and replaced the soft brake line
  • Repaired turbo intake hose and brake light switch
  • PCV valve replaced
  • Air filter housing modified to use Lexus SC430 air filters with stock appearance

505turbo88

The cylinder head is shown with the valve cover removed, and underhood surfaces appear clean. These final year cars made 180 horsepower, a 20 horsepower bump over earlier 505 Turbos.

The only noted rust is on the left front fender, and the floors and exhaust appear dry in photos.

The sale includes the original manuals, warranty booklet, and a set of factory service manuals. The seller sourced a matching alloy wheel for a spare, though the original was steel. The seller will also include a set of US-market headlights.

The seller has provided several videos of the car, including the above walkaround, a cold start, a short drive, and a demonstration of the power features.

The previous owner kept comprehensive handwritten records beginning in 1990 at 6,245 miles, just a few hundred miles after the initial Carfax entry.
